{"id":1556,"date":"2018-02-11T06:02:41","date_gmt":"2018-02-11T06:02:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=1556"},"modified":"2020-02-07T04:04:50","modified_gmt":"2020-02-07T04:04:50","slug":"burlingame-lab","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=1556","title":{"rendered":"Burlingame R&#038;D Facility"},"content":{"rendered":"\nngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The 10,000 sq ft joint <strong>New Renaissance Institute<\/strong> and <a href=\"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=168\"><em><strong>New Renaissance Technology and Intellectual Property (NRT&amp;IP)<\/strong><\/em><\/a> facility in Burlingame CA provided closely-integrated interdisciplinary laboratory and library space to NRI research and development activities in 2012-2017.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=1554\"><em><strong>NRI\u2019s Burlingame Optics Laboratory<\/strong><\/em><\/a> continued NRI\u2019s research in <a href=\"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=29\">lensless light-field imaging<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=302\">lensless microscopy and optical tomography<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=58\">Fractional Fourier Optics <\/a>and supported new work supporting optical sensors for microfluidic systems, LED-based photochemical processors, and hybrid wavelength-selective light-emitting\/light-sensing pixel elements for advances in imaging systems. Some of NRI\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=29\">lensless light-field imaging<\/a> is being licensed by NRI\u2019s third spinout company <a href=\"https:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=168\"><strong>NoLens<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=1605\"><em><strong>NRI&#8217;s Burlingame Microfluidics Systems Laboratory<\/strong><\/em><\/a> continued NRI\u2019s microfluidics research in conduit-based bus and neighbor-chained microchannel fluidics and gas transport systems, reconfigurable microfluidic chemical processors, software authoring tools for configuration-definition and operating-process scripts, microfluidic valves and pumps, and product roadmaps for viable mass-produced reconfigurable microfluidic biochemical and chemical processors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=1620\"><em><strong>NRI\u2019s Burlingame Biosensor and Chemical Sensor Laboratory<\/strong><\/em><\/a> began NRI\u2019s work in advancing these types of sensors, particularly involving adapted LED technologies, printed electronics, bioFETS, adapted colorimetric methods, and other sensor approaches.<\/p>\n<p>As an example of interdisciplinary work benefiting from the closely integrated R&amp;D environment, a combination of NRI lensless microscopy and optical tomography technologies, NRI conduit-based bus and neighbor-chained microchannel fluidics and gas transport systems, NRI microfluidic sensors, and other technologies were used to develop NRI\u2019s next-generation microplate technologies original conceived by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20111219006505\/en\/Renaissance-Institute-Announces-Biochemistry-Research-Scientist\">Pooncharas Tipgunlakant<\/a> while she was at NRI; this promising technology and related intellectual property is being licensed by start-up <a href=\"http:\/\/advancedmicroplatetechnologies.com\/\">Advanced Microplate Technologies (AMT)<\/a> which plans to further develop and productize this exciting technology area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NRI\u2019s Burlingame Biosignaling Network Modeling Group<\/strong> (not pictured) continued NRI\u2019s large ongoing research and software development project in <a href=\" http:\/\/www.advancedmicroplatetechnologies.com\/\">modeling systems for biochemical networks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NRI\u2019s Burlingame Environmental Science Group<\/strong> (not pictured) further developed NRI\u2019s research in <a href=\"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=396\">, particularly in the areas of groundwater modeling, urban watersheds, and natural attenuation.<br><\/a><br><a href=\"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=1626\"><em><strong>NRI\u2019s Burlingame User Interface Laboratory<\/strong><\/em><\/a> continued NRI\u2019s research in <a href=\"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=60\">timbre-based data sonification<\/a> and supported several user interface design projects for several of the specialized laboratories. (The pleasant open areas and window light also hosted several temporary \u2018visiting\u2019 hardware projects.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newrenaissanceinstitute.com\/?page_id=1631\"><em><strong>NRI\u2019s Burlingame Mathematical Research and Stochastics Group<\/strong><\/em><\/a> undertook a number of mathematical and statistical research projects, including some pure-mathematics work that is to be published in a planned short book series.
